筆の都、新世紀の思いを描く

 熊野町には約180年の歴史があり筆の生産量日本一と言われる伝統的工芸品「熊野筆」があります。筆の都、熊野では老若男女を問わず、毛筆文化がさかんです。それは、町民一人ひとりの心の中に、筆の文化を守り伝えるという思いがあるからではないでしょうか。
 新しい世紀が幕開けしても熊野町のみんなが、歴史ある熊野の筆で一筆ごとに夢や希望を描いています。真っ白な半紙に向かい、おだやかな心で墨をすり墨汁をふくませた筆で、一人ひとりの思いを描いています。

Kumano-cho has a 180-year history. It is renowned for its traditional craft, the making of Kumano fude, or writing brushes. The town stands first in the domestic production of such brushes. Kumano-cho has long nurtured a love of writing. Its people are known for recording their thoughts, dreams and hopes with writing brushes from historical Kumano.

筆の里工房～Fudenosatokobo (the Brush Museum)～

四方を緑豊かな自然に囲まれた筆の都くまのの文化の拠点として平成6年（1994）にオープン。
熊野町の筆づくりの歴史や毛筆文化の紹介や工房ギャラリーを通して、地域文化の創造を図っています。

文房四宝（筆墨硯紙）の展示をはじめ筆から生まれる美術、工芸、遊びなど、筆の広がりの世界を見て、触れて、体験することができます。

There are many exhibits related to brushes in “Fudenosatokobo”, the Brush Museum,.  You can also see the demonstration of brush making by prominent skilled craft workers and the world-largest brush hung from the ceiling.
