筆塚 Fudezuka

 昭和40年9月に「筆精」を供養するため建てられました。
 この碑の傍らにある由来碑には「日本独自の書道文化を支えるのは熊野の筆である。祖先が熊野に取り入れた熊野筆の生産を生業として、その技術にさらに磨きをかけた、その結果、熊野筆は国の内外へ広がっていった。私たち町民は筆の生産で生活している。その筆に『命』があることを信じ筆の精霊と、先祖への遺徳、誇りと感謝をこめて、ここに同士が塚を築く」と言う意味の文面が記されています。
 年に一度、秋分の日に行われる「筆まつり」では、これまで使用してきた筆を心から大切に思う気持ちと同時に、筆の毛となってくれる動物の霊に感謝し、この塚の傍で筆を焼いて供養します。
 ちなみに「筆塚」の文字は、広島県出身の首相、池田勇人元首相の肉筆を刻んだものです。

Fudezuka

This monument was constructed in 1965 in thanks to the spirit of brushes and the virtues of the residents' ancestors.
In front of this monument within the grounds of Sakakiyama Shrine, the "Fude Kuyo" is held at the Brush Festival on the autumn equinox. It is a memorial service where used brushes that have reached the end of their lives are burned in a ceremony of thanks.
The calligraphy on the monument was written by the late Hayato Ikeda, who was the 58th, 59th,and 60th prime minister of Japan.
